I want the Government to introduce legislation so that defendants charged with controlling or coercive behaviour cannot receive a sentencing reduction for a guilty plea entered after initially pleading not guilty.
This should be known as Paris’s Law.
We are so close - thank you for being part of this. Paris x
Paris’s Law calls for a change to sentencing so that defendants in coercive control cases cannot receive reduced sentences when they enter a guilty plea late in the process.
Campaigners say this change is needed to:
Prevent prolonged trauma for victims
Close a gap in the current system
Ensure coercive control offences are properly recognised
“Victims can wait months or years for trial, reliving trauma, only for a last-minute guilty plea to still result in a reduced sentence.”
